BERIBI, 17 July 2009.
The Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah Orphans Fund received a boost yesterday when a popular philanthropic eatery handed over a donation to support and improve upon the welfare of orphans in the Sultanate.
The donation presentation ceremony for the fund was held at the premises of the Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar restaurant (B) Sdn Bhd in Kg Beribi, where its Managing Director Pg Sharifful Bahri Pg Seri Indera Pg Hj Ismail presented the donation to the Chief Executive Officer of the fund, Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim Hj Daud.
Also making an impromptu contribution to the fund was a customer, who happened to be patronising the restaurant at the time, Pg Hj Mohd Ayyub Pg Maharaja Anakanda Pg Hj Ahmad. Yesterday's contribution by the restaurant was 80 per cent of the proceeds from its opening day sales last June 27 and the restaurant plans to make future contributions to the fund in the coming month of Ramadhan.
In a press release from the Orphans Fund, the foundation said it highly appreciates the support and contribution by generous donors in helping to support its efforts to upgrade the welfare of orphans in the Sultanate. Also present at the ceremony were several members of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah board of directors, officers and staff from the fund's secretariat.
The Original Penang KAYU Nasi Kandar Restaurant (B) Sdn Bhd in Kg Beribi, which opened its doors to the public recently, is one of the established and popular restaurant branches in Malaysia and is synonymous with the popular Malay Nasi Kandar dish.
Having opened its first international branch in Australia, the opening of the restaurant here marked the first of its branches in Brunei Darussalam. |
